For the first time since I can remember my mom will be going to bed with a little more ease than she usually does. Today, we were fortunate enough to get the Dexcom Share where the read out from my CGM will show up on her iphone. Technology huh? She will know my blood sugar every five minutes and can see if it is getting out of range in either direction. I now have a sense of security that if something were to happen, someone will know right away. I can already feel the weight lifted off of my moms shoulders, even if I’m 500 miles away. She will no longer have to bite her tongue as I proceed to tell her about my day, when all she wants to know how my blood sugars are, because now she doesn’t even have to ask. Who know what this will bring? More fighting? tighter control with someone always watching? A signed contract on how many times shes allowed to call and ask me why my blood sugar is trending the way it is? But for now our conversation has consisted of screen shots of the read out to see if it is actually matching up? If she can actually see what my blood sugar is? When Im in DC and shes in New Hampshire? I would have never imagined this 15 years ago when I was diagnosed.
Stay tuned for the Mom-can-see-my-blood-sugars (Oh no!) saga.
